Amie's involvement in horses spans twenty years, and had its beginning while she was a student at Nonewaug High School's Vo-Ag program, at which time she served as groom for Cindy McCann Mooney who was campaigning two horses at the Intermediate and Advanced levels of Eventing.
After graduation she accepted a working student position at Denny and May Emerson's Tamarack Hill Farm in Strafford, VT and Southern Pines, NC. She was soon promoted to groom and later to Farm Manager. Her ten years there afforded her many opportunities to ride and train, with Denny and May as well as Lynn Coates Holmes.. She also traveled to the Seoul Olympics in 1988 as groom for the competitor for the US Virgin Islands.
Upon returning to Connecticut in 1999 she enrolled at WestConn and did free-lance riding instruction at various locations, including Highborn Horse Park and River's Edge Farm in Southbury. She also taught the Stable Management course at Teikyo Post University.
While furthering her education she continued to compete in Eventing, completing three CCI* and one CCI** events, and split her time between college, a part-time job as a Rehab Tech at HealthSouth, and intermittent work and training with Mark Weissbecker of Birch Hill Farm in Richmond, MA and Southern Pines, NC.
2003 saw her receive her degree and status as a Certified Physical Therapist Assistant, and also saw the birth of her son Joshua. She also continued to pursue her competitive goals and maintained her employment at HealthSouth.
